A music video responding to #MeToo with the words of Audre Lorde
Credits: Director, Producer
Created by Well of Wills, a Jewish artist collective and community of womxn, this hybrid music video and documentary responds to the pain of the #MeToo experience through the documentation of a ritual dance that combines traditional Jewish ritual gestures with choreographed and improvised movement. The ritual meditates on the disembodying force of patriarchy and the redeeming power of intersectional feminism: two parallel realities that are cinematically revealed as the ritual unfolds. The original music track weaves together lyrics adapted from biblical texts, the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford at the Kavanaugh hearings (September 2018) and the words of Audre Lorde from her 1978 essay Uses of The Erotic. In this visionary text, Lorde redefines the idea of the “erotic,” as a spiritual resource and liberatory power that has been corrupted by the patriarchy in order to control society.
